Mental Health

IMPORTANT: The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be stressful for our students. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions. HSE administration has compiled some mental health resources and talking points for discussing COVID-19 with our youth.  Please check out the HSE District Mental Health webpage for more information.

A recent U.S. Surgeon General report indicates that one in five children and adolescents will face a significant mental health condition during their school years. Supporting mental health in students can remove barriers to learning and shift focus to the success of the whole child. Hamilton Southeastern Schools define mental health as a person’s overall emotional, psychological, and social well-being (mental health.gov). This differs from mental illness.

The Fall Creek Elementary school counseling team has one licensed school counselor who work with loop with students. That means you will have the same counselor for your entire high school experience. Our counselors can assist with crisis intervention, suicide prevention, individual counseling, group counseling, and referrals. However, students and families do not need to be struggling to work with our counselors. Much of their time is spent course planning and building future ready, social-emotional skills like building relationships, communication, problem solving, persistence, and stress management.

HSE Schools also partners with Community Health Network to provide behavioral health services to students on-site in each of our schools. If you are interested in this service please reach out to your child’s school counselor to learn more.

  • Suicide Hotline    1-800-273-8255
  • Child Protection Services    1-800-800-5556 or 1-877-433-0138

You may also use the HSE Report It! App (available on the Apple App Store and GooglePlay), if you are concerned about the well-being of another student. If you have immediate concerns or are in danger, call 911.

Love on a Leash (L.O.A.L) is a program for students to participate in a weekly reading experience with special therapy dogs. The goal is to increase overall confidence, reading skills and making positive connections.

Puppies and Pals is an extension of the L.O.A.L. program. First semester, therapy dogs visit each classroom and students learn about dog safety.  Second semester, classrooms have the opportunity to have therapy dogs visit their students (similar to the LOAL program).  Our goal through this program is to reach ALL students and continue making positive connections.
